10,000 Producers Screen Cap

The 1 Second Film reached 10,000 Producers today! I am so completely floored - this is an amazing number of people. Big Thanks to everyone that has helped us to reach this milestone!

Collectively, we have raised $272,615.95 from the ground up. Our new website is just a few months away from completion, and will empower our crew with the tools to collaborate together - not just on this project, but on future non-profit collaborations as well.

I'm really humbled and overwhelmed by the steady support and generosity from all of you.

9,800 Producers + Behind the Screen Site Development

nirvan

We passed 9,800 Producers yesterday! Thanks everyone who has been joining!

Meanwhile, I've been working super long hours designing the new sign up and registration process. Been workin on it for 2 weeks! Finally finished at 3am last night and uploaded the PSD files to Ciplex. I was so tired, i was falling asleep as each file uploaded. But I wanted to get it done as custom coding was waiting for these new designs.

9,500 Producer Mile Marker + Charts and Graphs!

nirvan

We recently cleared 9,500 Producers and 10,000 Crew Member Mark! We have raised $264,812.18 with the help of thousands of people from 59 countries.

Here are some charts I put together for our Board of Directors meeting. Really helps to visualize the rate in which this project has grown.

This First Chart visualizes the # of producers over time (in Blue). After our site was automated in 2007, some people joined but have yet to donate (shown in Red).

Some key moments are also pointed out (getting listed on IMDb, getting featured on YouTube, etc). You can really see how our growth slowed down after IMDb decided to remove all of our crew credits. You can also see the spike achieved while on our Road to Oprah tour. Currently, most of our new online producers stumble across us on Wikipedia.Below is another chart showing money we have raised over time. This includes a lot of donated services and equipment.

9,000 Producers :)

nirvan

We passed 9,000 Producers today! :)

Man, I remember when a few hundred producers seemed like an absurd amount. And I remember when we reached 1,000- it was during our trip to Sundance when Craig and I were sneaking into parties and getting donations from celebs. I just went back and looked at my blog entry from then.

That was almost 3 years ago... Man, I must admit, I had no idea I would be working on this for so long! But somehow this project has continued to grow, thanks to more people who continue to stumble across it and have been moved to lend support as producers.

Heading to Chicago

nirvan

We are driving through cornfields, looking for biodiesel on our way to Chicago. The last few days have been filled with family and wonderful moments with perfect strangers.

Last night we were in Indiana, campfire on a cornfield, with Levi's family. It was really beautiful, sunset and sunrise. There was frost on the corn stalks. The day before we were near Columbus Ohio with Sarah's family. Both very warm stops, giving all a chance to catch up.

Connecticut was a really lovely visit to Stratford, and a great restaurant called Ciaos where the owner, Vincent, gave us all a free meal and even became one of our newest Executive Producers. The Mayor was there and joined up as well :) Stratford was near the hometown of our drummer, George Bernardo, who was able o set up the stop last second style with the help of friends anf family. We raised several hundred dollars and met a bunch of great folks, all very supportive and encouraging.

Over 7,500 Producers and Pressing On!

nirvan

We have officially passed the 7,500 Producer mark, having collectively raised $161,915.99. We are in some uncharted waters here... finally ready to scale up, we are now sending out our First Official Press Release!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Celebrities Join Thousands to Produce Biggest Shortest Film Ever Made

LOS ANGELES, CA – Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, Pierce Brosnan, Christina Ricci, and Stephen Colbert are just a few of the dozens of celebrities that have joined over 7,500 people from 45 countries to produce a 70mm film that will last only one second.

The innovative non-profit collaboration, aptly titled “The 1 Second Film,” creatively utilizes the internet to enable anyone in the world to become a film producer along with major stars, simply by donating $1 or more via the film’s website: www.the1secondfilm.com

“A lot can happen in one-second,” says Nirvan Mullick, an award-winning director turned social-entrepreneur, who started the film 7 years ago while a student at California Institute of the Arts. A single second of animation consists of 24 frames of film. In this case, each frame is a giant collaborative mural painted by hundreds of people.

Nirvan began fundraising after graduating, setting out to bring the world together for one second. With no budget and a simple Xeroxed flier he began pitching the film to anyone he met. His first celebrity pitch was to George Clooney, whom he ran into in a Burbank parking lot. “I was pretty nervous,” Nirvan admits, “Clooney passed, but later I got a dollar from a lady at the grocery store.”

After that initial encounter, Nirvan continued to improve his marketing materials and his 1 Second pitch. Hundreds more donated and soon even randomly encountered celebrities started chipping in. Christina Ricci, met on a sidewalk, donated $5.50, Spike Jonze became a $12 producer at a movie theater, and Tom Arnold gave $100 outside of the Hollywood Guitar Center.

Nirvan made a website listing the celebrity and non-celebrity producers in order of amount donated. Word spread virally, and thousands around the world began donating online. Dozens of Christina Ricci fans have since given $5.51 to be listed above the star, while comedians Tom Green ($220.00) and Andy Dick ($211.11) are engaged in an escalating battle for top billing.

After raising over $160,000 of a $1,000,000 goal, the production recently launched it’s own online social-network, giving its thousands of producers unique profiles. “Imagine if everyone on MySpace was making a movie together,” says Nirvan, “that’s the goal. Micro-collaboration.”

“I love what these guys are doing, and the way they are doing it,” says Kiefer Sutherland, one of the film’s top Executive Producers, who recently donated $600.23 at a restaurant.

With thousands of producers, from gas-station attendants to the director of Independence Day, the film’s end credits will last an astounding 90-minutes. A star studded “making of” documentary will accompany the feature-length credits, detailing the (often absurd) adventures of bringing the world together for one-second. All profits raised by The 1 Second Film will be donated to charity.

A two-second film is already in development (The 2 Second Film). For more information please visit www.the1secondfilm.com or email press@the1secondfilm.com

IMDb's Contributor conversation + 7,000 Producers!

nirvan

Hey everybody, I was just pointed to an active conversation about The 1 Second Film on IMDb's contributor message board at this link: http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000042/thread/65938494

Feel free to join the conversation. It looks interesting; I'm going to read through it tomorrow and post a reply. We are in the midst of pollishing the site; we have had Jason's programming, and he fixed a lot of little things, from the user search engine to the producer blogs. Sean has started adding our latest producers directly into the new system manually, which is exciting. We have about 200 new producers to add manually; the rest we were able to import bulk. Meanwhile, Mike has been working on design elements, which are shaping up, and I am assembling a list of priorities/fixes. We are hoping to beta test the new site this weekend, make final tweeks next week, and hopefully launch (!) soon after. Can't wait to share this with all of you. Also, thanks to everyone who has sent concerned e-mails or called regarding the IMDb situation, I appreciate everyones understanding, and am glad our producers are taking this in stride. We will try to figure out what the situation is and let everyone know what we find out. Meanwhile, new producers continue to trickle in. We now have over 7,000 producers! Check out some new producer pics and this cool animation from Dan MacKenzie, a young filmmaker/producer who sent in $19.88 from Gorham, Maine:

6,200 Producers :: blog changing soon

Lorraine James

we now have more producers today than ever before. also, mike brodersen helped me install a wordpress blog; we are still setting it up. we are tired of waiting for our new website and have decided to make some improvements on our own. as some of you know, our current blog and forum really suck. they are a pain to use. we recently lost about 10 months of posts when we transferred our hosting, and lots of forum posts. our forum isn't all that active, in part probably because it's not very easy to use.

over 4,000 Producers- over 100 today!

nirvan

today is insane. over 100 new producers have joined our production today, helping us raise over $1,000 for our film. crazy. we have had over 7,000 people visit the site today and over 28,000 views of the video clip from Sundance. it seems like new producers are donating every few seconds. is this insane? special thanks to YouTube for featuring our video clip. New Producers: please send us a pic of you producing The 1 Second Film in your part of the world! Says Lain: "On the note of my one second film, i probably would make it about the time i got so drunk when i went to take a crap i started throwing up so i got up and started being sick in the toilet (stick with me here...).
