The 1 Second Film embraces collaboration and sharing, and as such, we have adopted the following policy regarding Intellectual Property, Creative Commons, and Copyright. This policy may change or get updated in the future. Changes to this policy will be effective 14 days after posting. Please post any thoughts regarding our sharing policy in our forum or contact us directly. Thanks! 

Use of's content:

Excluding our 12 frames of animation (which are under traditional copyright protection), and unless noted below, all content on our site is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 License. Content under this license may be used non-commercially in order to help create/promote The 1 Second Film, or to create other creative work. Share, mix, and create, as outlined by this license. Attribution should be given to the original source and linked to this site. The 1 Second Film's 12 frames of animation are under a full copyright protection with all rights reserved, and are not to be used, copied, or duplicated without requesting and receiving written permission from us.

Crew Member generated content

Crew Members maintain ownership of their content, but grant THE 1 SECOND FILM and THE COLLABORATION FOUNDATION a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide license to (i) use, reproduce, publish, edit, translate, modify, adapt, distribute, publicly perform, and publicly display the Content alone or as part of other works in any form, media, or technology whether now known or later developed, and to (ii)
freely and fully sublicense such rights through single or multiple tiers of sublicensees.

You also expressly acknowledge and agree that THE 1 SECOND FILM shall have the right to grant a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-Share Alike 3.0 License ("CC License"), available at, for all Content posted on or through our Site, including Content you post on or through, as well as all content mailed to us by you. In cases where THE 1 SECOND FILM licenses Content through a CC License, you agree that any attribution required under the CC License shall be at minimum to our Site, in addition to attribution to the Producer name associated with the Content.

The 12 Frames/Paintings (previewed here) that make up The 1 Second Film's animation, are protected under a full copyright and are not to be duplicated, copied, displayed, or used in any manner without having first received explicit written permission from The Collaboration Foundation.

We may change this license in the future, after our film is finished & released. If you have any questions, please contact us.

DMCA Copyright Policy

The 1 Second Film has adopted the following general policy regarding coprights in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Basically, please do not upload any content to our site unless you own all the copyrights involved or have received legal permission.

The 1 Second Film will immediately remove or block access to material that we believe in good faith to be copyrighted material that has been illegally copied and distributed by any of our users. We will also remove and discontinue service to repeat offenders (as per our terms of service).

To Report Copyright Infringements:

If you believe that material or content residing on infringes a copyright, please send a notice of © infringement containing the following information to the Designated Agent listed below:

  1. Identification of the copyrighted work that you believe has been infringed on our site;

  2. Identification of the material that you claim has infringed on the identified copyrighted work, including (a) a description of how the material in question is using the copyrighted work in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, and (b) a description of where the material in question is located on website, with sufficient detail that we may verify the existence of the material on our web site;

  3. Your contact info, including your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address;

  4. Statement by you that you have a good faith belief that the disputed use of the copyrighted materials is not authorized by the copyright holder, its agents, or the law;

  5. Statement by you, made under penalty of perjury, that the information provided in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright holder or are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright holder; and

  6. Electronic or physical signature of the person authorized to act on behalf of the copyright holder.

Once Proper Infringement Notification is Received by our Designated Agent:

If we believe in good faith that the material in question does violate a copyright, it is The 1 Second Film's policy:

  1. to remove or disable access to the infringing material;

  2. to notify, where possible, the user that it has removed or disabled access to the material; and

  3. that infringing material will be removed from the system and that The 1 Second Film will terminate repeat offenders access to our website and service.

Procedure to Supply a Counter-Notice to the Designated Agent:

If a user or Producer believes that material in question did not infringe upon a copyright, the user must send a counter-notice containing the following information to our Designated Agent:

  1. An electronic or physical signature of the user;

  2. Identification of the material in question and the location where the material appeared before it was disabled;

  3. A statement that the user has a good faith belief that the material was misidentified as a copyright violation; and

  4. User's name, address, telephone number, Producer ID#, and, if available, e-mail and a statement that such person or entity consents to legal ramifications from the person who provided the alleged infringement notification.

If a counter-notice is received, The 1 Second Film may replace the removed material based on our good faith understanding of the material in question. We may send a copy of the counter-notice to the party that made the original complaint. Unless the copyright owner files an action seeking a court order against the user, the removed material may be replaced or access to it restored in 10 to 14 business days after receipt of the counter-notice, at The 1 Second Film's discretion.
