Biography

Aspiring soprano Laura Millar began her career in her native New Hampshire in the respected Andy's Summer Playhouse. She has since gone to New York to pursue an opera career at Hofstra University. She has worked with Pulitzer Prize winning writers, Metropolitan performers and staff, and dozens of professional singers in her studies.

Laura Millar is also an actress of musical theater and straight plays, an award winning poet, and a playwright. Three of her original plays have been performed by Andy's Summer Playhouse to great success. Her comedy, "Murder at the Golden Gates Theater", raised $2,000 in a benefit performance for Andy's. Another of her works is slated to be performed in 2008.

Why I'm producing The 1 Second Film:

I am a supporter of the arts in any variety, be it music, theater, or film. I love innovation, and I think that this is a brilliant innovative idea!

Some things I'm doing to help make this film:

I am trying to get students from Hofstra University involved in the project, through donations or other means.

Perfect Moment

Having Nico Castel, the famed "pasha of diction", who hears Met opera singers on a daily basis, describe my voice as "magnificent" this summer. That pretty much takes the cake for me.

My top ten are, in no particular order, "Life is Beautiful", "The Philadelphia Story", "Forrest Gump", "American Beauty", "The Big Lebowski", "Crash", "Some Like it Hot", "Sixteen Candles", "Spanglish", and "PCU".

Music

Pretty much everything. Dave Matthew's Band, Sublime, Kelly Clarkson, Styx, Aerosmith, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Queen, Ella Fitzgerald, anything by Cole Porter, Sarah McLachlan, Death Cab for Cutie, Postal Service, Tenacious D, Stephen Lynch, and Regina Spektor... to name a few.

I love opera, some of my favorites include Der Rosenkavalier, Ariadne auf Naxos, Madama Butterfly, and Eugene Onegin. My favorite opera singers are Renee Fleming, Birgit Nilsson, Ramon Vargas, and Deborah Voigt.
I also love Broadway - The Last Five Years, Grey Gardens, The Color Purple, Hairspray, and Aida.

I am currently working as a lyricist for several musicals with Brian Crook. I am beginning work on my first opera (It's in the early stages, and I don't want to give anything away yet). I am also working on my poetry, and may possibly be writing more comedies for Andy's Summer Playhouse.

I begin auditioning for professional young artist programs and graduate programs in the fall of '08... wish me luck!
