how long till the 1 second film will be made?
and just general subjects to discuss
Nirvan, about that...now that we're producers and we would love to see this thing getting made, could you give us some idea as to what kind of fund raisers we could do to reach the goal?
For example, would you like some people to go out wearing placards saying "Produce a movie for a buck", or go on street corners videotaping people asking what their perfect moment is and ask for donations, and so on?
Or do I have completely the wrong idea?
Your fundraising ideas are on the mark. That type of grassroots support (and footage) would be really great. The more people that get involved, the stronger the project becomes. As we build grassroots support, we will also attract larger donors. This has started to happed to some degree, and is encouraging.
But overall, I've come to recognize that this project (and website) are still too complicated for the majority of people. There is too much to read and the sign up process is too complex. Also the backend for communicating with everyone that wants to participate more needs to be improved.
I've had a lot of epiphanies to address these issues. I just sent some new site designs to our programmer and should get an idea early next week how long it will take to build and how much it will cost.
Meanwhile, if you all have any questions or ideas, please let me know.
thanks :)
I do have some ideas, yeah. The big one going along with the placard idea...going out to the city center or college grounds or University ground...or somewhere near an Arts Centre, asking for donations. Maybe even going as far as carrying a laptop (w/ wireless connection) to sign up directly on the website.
Maybe make available a .pdf file for printing out and distributing "Certificates of Producer-ship" (something like that)...that way us producers can go out and recruit, maybe.
this sounds great. any video of you out and about promoting would be awesome. our accounting gets tricky when producers physically accept donations from other people on the street, and we aren't really set up to allow that. it's just too complicated to account for so many small donations. but if you had a laptop where people could sign up and donate online, that would be rad.
also, i'll let you in on a secret: we are changing things up with the website so that people can sign up for free. once they sign up, they will get a "special thanks" in our credits, and will then be able to donate to get a "producer" credit.
once this is done, it will be much simpler to sign people up out on the streets as you will not need to ask for money. just a name and an email address, and a signature that they want to be involved.
i'll see about making a certificate.
thanks,
n

i would also like to know the answer to this question!
seriously though, it's difficult to say. this is the first time doing something like this. we don't currently have the resources to finish the project, but we are building the tools to get those resources.
i think after the bigsite upgrade we are working on we will be able to see the finish line.
