some of your perfect moments
back from MCAD. the trip was awesome, big thanks to our producers Gene Landry for setting up the trip, Beth Van Dam for hosting us (and all the great meals), and Mary P for driving us around yesterday and running across a frozen lake to that island. that was fun. And to all the students for coming out to hear about this project, for becoming our producers, and for offering to write letters to Oprah! We raised over $700 for The 1 Second Film, and had a great time meeting some really cool people.
And thanks to all of our newest on-line producers from around the world! We will post the newest list ASAP. Today we pooled a bunch of donations together and bought an external hard-drive with 1 Terabyte of storage! We have over 200 hours of footage to start logging; it's a relief to finally have hard-drive space to start logging tapes. Thank you all who have donated to help us buy this crucial piece of equipment. The drive cost $800, and was possibly purchased with the help of 800 Associate Producers. Pretty cool. Sean is logging some footage tonight; we are cutting together a short documentary about the 'making of' The 1 Second Film as we have been invited to screen at the upcoming Golden Star Shorts Fest.
Wanted to post some of the many awesome e-mails and comments we have been getting from our producers around the world:
"I just wanted to thank you again for taking time out of your busy schedule
to come share your journey with the MCAD community. It truly inspired me
and sparked my work ethic as an artist, HONEST!I worked my regular lunch shift at the Olive Garden today and afterwards
handed out some of your precious and valuable fliers, went to Sports
Authority and left some goods on their register counter as well.I was honest about contributing my time to designing and building more
credit stands for you. Let me know how/when....I would be willing to
incorporate it into my senior show as well - which has a great turn
out...crowd, that is (I graduate May of this year) so please let me know
what you think ASAP.Sending positive energy and a red paperclip!

p.s. Just to let you know....I wrote to the producers of The Oprah Winfrey
Show. They are grateful that I wrote."
Thanks Brandis! Getting to meet students like you is just as inspiring for us. and yes please, build your own credit-stand. That would be so cool; I'd like to see how you design yours. And i too am grateful for you writing to Oprah; very thoughtful of you to have done that, and it just might really help.
$10.01 from Sean Huze, referred by his friend/our producer, John E. Dowdle:
"I’m an actor and writer (stage & screenplays) and a Marine Corps veteran of the current war in Iraq. I’m very involved in speaking out against the war and speaking up for the veterans of the war." http://www.thesandstorm.com/index_files/seanhuze.ht
8. Have you ever financed a film before?
Nope!9. Why are you financing THE 1 SECOND FILM?
I like the cause you’re raising money for and am really impressed by this new and innovative concept for raising funds for a charity.10. Last, but not least, if you could choose one perfect moment from your life to make into a one-second film, what moment would it be?
It’s a toss up between the first time that I ever held my son and the first time I held him after returning from my deployment in Iraq. Both moments are beautiful and vivid and as close to perfect as possible.
Thanks Sean for sharing those amazing moments. I'd like to get your thoughts on our idea for The 2nd Second Film at some point, as the time grows near.
We have been receiving a ton of really incredible ideas for personal one-second films. I haven't had time to post them, and still don't, but I am going to take a moment here to share some with you all; these are some of the moments sent by our producers this last week:
"First time I walked."
- $1 DAvEmAcNeIL (Antigonish, Nova Scotia)"The last hug I ever received from my friend Kristin."
- Pat Susmilch"when the orgasm jumps off the spine to the brain."
- $111.14 jason heath (Lake Havasu City, AZ)"When my wife finally said “I do. It only took me 11½ years to nail her down."
- $10 Chip Blake (I wanted to get a step closer to Kevin Bacon)"I am a 33 year old woman who recently left the US Army (Oct 31, 2006) after
serving 8 years in order to stay home and raise a newborn baby girl, Ariana
and a 7 year old first grader, Nathan, who people tell me is the spitting
image of Ron Howard in his Opie days. My husband, Dennis (aka DJ) is an
amazing man to support me in my new career as Domestic Engineer. I grew up
in a small town in Kansas, but currently reside in Sierra Vista, AZ. This
is my first film besides the home movies. I am currently working on my
Master's Degree. :) Holding my children in my arms after they have taken their first breath of
life. That is my perfect moment. Life is new and full of hope. It reminds
me of a saying: Babies are God's way of saying life should go on."
- $11 Amy C. Baars (Sierra Vista, AZ)"Any form of original art to help the world is genius. I have heard of The 1 Second film through Spike Jonze and his filmography. One moment would be traveling at an airport." - Francesco Bori (Oxford, United Kingdom)
"I don't feel I have lived that moment just yet. I'm in the Air Force, about 2 months from getting out, and looking to go into some kind of broadcasting. I'll send more once I get a chance and thanks for the opportunity!!" - $26.42, Frank D. Zipeto (WHAT!!) (Dalzell, SC)
"I do not remember, but I think my birth moment."
- $1.56 Andrew Leehatchevsky (I'm 15 and live in Poland and my surname is kind of...surprise!- foreign sounding)"Climbing Tara Pass during my circumambulation of Mt. Kailash in Tibet and seeing the
prayer flags, along with the rest of my crew. That was perfect."
- Erich W. Johnston (Fayetteville, AR)"Watching the sunrise on Haleakala."
- $11.11 Cheeba White (world wide web)"When I opened up my acceptance letter for University of Northampton. I was
so happy. I am a huge fan of films and to be apart
of something so great is amazing." - $15 Allen Tew (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom)"Perfect moment: catching a great layout score to win a game Ultimate for my team, the Georgia Tech Tribe. Something like this, http://www2.gsu.edu/~wwwrec/clubs/ultimate/J-JawDrop.JPG
- Parag Gajarawala (Atlanta, GA)
thank you all for sharing these with us. the response to this project continues to be pretty overwhelming. we are working on getting a new website to allow us to more easily post and interact with all of our producers. working on that quite a bit. we should start a perfect moment in the forum or something.
this week i am working on the intense round 2 application for the Echoing Green Foundation. hope to get some pics from our trip to MCAD soon; i'm leaving to Berlin on the 9th- the short film festival is in hollywood, scheduled a few days after i get back from Berlin. they are going to feature The 1 Second Film as a short film pushing the boundaries. We will be setting up our credit stand at the Egyptian Theater. should be fun, but it's gonna be some work getting the cut done. so there is a lot to get done, and i gotta go do it.
Thanks to all who keep passing the word- we really appreciate your continued support.
best to all,
nirvan
