| Hi Everyone! Welcome to our 2nd official newsletter for The 1 Second Film, going out to over 5,400 producers around the world- more than twice as many as our first issue, and certainly more than any other film I've ever made. We continue to grow thanks to word-of-mouth and incredible grassroots support. When this started as my student project six years ago, I had no idea how many amazing people would become a part of this. The 1 Second Film's crew is now larger than many small towns, comprised of a crew from over 30 different countries.I'm continually amazed and humbled by the incredible support we are receiving; it's almost unbelievable. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or thoughts. Again, thanks for all the little things you all do, I really appreciate it. Best to all, Nirvan |

| Non-Profit Foundation Our Non-Profit Foundation has been very fortunate to receive generous pro-bono legal services from the law offices of Paul Hastings and McDermott, Will, & Emery. A legal team from Paul Hastings helped us officially incorporate The 1 Second Foundation as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. McDermott, Will, & Emery will now be handling the rest of our legal filings as we move forward. The 1 Second Foundation will oversee our 5 phase plan to expand the concept of The 1 Second Film in an effort to foster global community using collaborative art and media while addressing challenging social issues. Our foundations Board of Directors currently includes Ben Goldhirsh, Albert Maysles, Stephen Nemeth, Julie Taymor, and Nirvan Mullick. Special Thanks to Keith Bauman from Paul Hastings, and Ben Wolkov from MW&E for their guidance and expertise. |

YouTube + Stephen Colbert = Awesome One of our video clips was somehow featured on YouTube's homepage. We uploaded the video May 8th, the week after Stephen Colbert's infamous speech at the Whitehouse Correspondence dinner. The next day our clip from Sundance 2005 (that includes Stephen Colbert) was featured on YouTube's homepage where it was watched over 100,000 times, resulting in over 700 new producers in just 5 days (raising over $7,000)! This wave of support was a real 'proof of concept' moment for us, and financially gave us the resources we needed to finally start building an automated website. |

New Website on the Way! We have been very busy building a new and improved website which will allow all of our producers to participate much more. Our new website is being built around an open source Content Management System called Drupal that helps empower grassroots online communities. Each of our producers will be getting their own producer profile, and will be able to upload bios, videos, photos, and audio that can be included in our documentary. The website will also automate our donation/credit listing process so that we no longer have to enter names by hand. Once automated, we will finally follow up with all the publicity requests we have received. Our website is being created by Hip Design who is currently programming our new features. We will send out an e-mail once Phase 1 of our new site is up. We look forward to sharing it with all of you and getting your feedback. |

VIDEOS watch part 3 of this absurd bidding war w/ Spike Jonze and a Pinata! How to get $500 from George Clooney watch us gradually raise our budget via George Clooney and a tin of Hint Mints... watch some of the videos sent by our producers helping promote The 1 Second Film in their part of the world. Be In Our Film! Send your videos talking about or promoting T1SF for a chance to be included in our 70mm documentary! TOP 10 PRODUCERS Since announcing that our Top 10 Producers will receive Title Credits before The 1 Second Film begins, 8 new Executive Producers have entered the Top 10! These include $5,000 from the Goldhirsh Foundation, $1,721.04 from Channing Humphries, $1,650 from the Hint Mint challenge, and $650 from Cliff Hensley. These larger donations have really helped us gradually raise our budget. How high will the bidding go? Our Title-Credits are still up for grabs; donations of $500 or more can even be made tax-deductible! One Red Producer Clip Congratulations to our latest Producer of the Moment, Kyle MacDonald, who recently completed his amazing quest to trade one red paperclip for a house! Along the way, Kyle inspired millions by showing how much can be done with extremely little. If your not familiar with his story, check out Kyle on ABC's 20/20... then read our 10 Questions with Kyle...and then join us at his HouseWarming Party in Kipling, Saskatchewan! .............................. Updates: Presentations: we visited UC Santa Cruz and Minneapolis College of Art and Design to present The 1 Second Film and our 5 Phase Plan. These trips were a lot of fun; check out some pics here, here, and here. Special thanks to our producers Edward Robins and Gene Landry for setting up our visits to their universities. If you would like to arrange for us to come to your school, please contact us: roadtrip(at)the1secondfilm(dot Our Credit Stand is complete! Our last newsletter had a poll asking our producers whether our credit stand should read: "Be a Film Producer for $1" or "Credits for Sale!" Thanks to everyone who voted, our credit stand is now finished and will be joining us on our road trip across America. Road Trip to Oprah! Before we finish The 1 Second Film, we have a goal of trying to reach as wide an audience as possible. To this end, we are planning a bio-diesel cross-country road trip to Chicago where we will try to get Oprah to become one of our producers. We will also be stopping at universities and house parties as we go, presenting our 5 Phase Plan to bring the world together, and meeting as many of our you as we can! If you would like us to visit your school or to help set up a party along our journey, please contact us at: roadtrip(at)the1secondfilm(dot ..............................
Vital Stats Our production is growing at a steadily increasing rate, both in terms of producers and $ raised, as can be seen in the graph to the right. Current producer count: 5,450 (as of August 20, 2006) Budget raised: $131,214.86* *includes $50,000 in donated 70mm film services from FotoKem. .............................. Next Steps for our Producers The strength of our production is our size; with thousands of producers, if we all do a little, we collectively accomplish a lot. To fully maximize our impact, we need to coordinate our efforts. So here is our plan, and some simple ways you can help: 1. Invite friends and family to help produce with us! 2. Get ready for our new site! Once our new site is up, check to make sure your producer credit information has been correctly transfered to our automated system. Let us know if you see any errors. We will also be launching a coordinated press release, and will need your help, so be on the lookout for an e-mail with detailed instructions shortly after our new site is online. 3. Send us your bio, pics, and videos. Content submitted will be part of your producer profiles on our new site. Producers can also appear in our 70mm documentary! Send all bios and pics to: donations(at)the1secondfilm |
