Starting with no budget, this project has grown one person at a time. This page provides an overview of what we have collectively accomplished, what remains to be done, and what we hope to leave behind once finished.
Aside from making an entertaining film, our primary goal is to build an online platform for global collaboration and social change. To this end, we are working toward building the Collaboration Foundation as part of completing The 1 Second Film project.
Starting from the ground up, our production has accomplished the following:
Grown to over 10,000 Participants in 59 Countries
Received support from hundreds of experienced filmmakers and celebrities.
Created a powerful open-source website (powered by Drupal) that automates our donation process and gives our producers unique profiles, allowing our project to scale up.
World Class Web Hosting, with dedicated servers donated by Pair Networks
Purchased Camera equipment for our documentary (HD camera, lens, microphone, lights, tri-pod, batteries, etc).
Over 400 hours of footage, including celebrity and grassroot endorsements
Received over $25K worth of computers for post-production (courtesy of Apple), including FinalCut Studio Pro HD, Keynote, and Apple Shake
Purchased 2 Terabytes of Hard Drive storage space for digital media.

The 1 Second Film is designed to provide a document of a collaborative journey. Once completed, we will have collectively produced the following:
• One-Second of Animation - The World's Biggest Shortest Film, consisting of 12 giant murals, which will be auctioned off after our film's premiere to raise funds for charity. The 12 frames are stunning, created by hundreds of participants, with color design by legendary Jules Engel.
• A feature length documentary: this will be the first film that anyone can produce (and appear in) alongside major celebrities. The documentary will play alongside our 90-minute credit sequence.
• Soundtrack + Collectibles: the music used in the making of documentary, featuring several originals songs, will be sold to raise funds for the Global Fund for Women, as will several collectible items derived from the art work.
• An Online Community - the1secondfilm.com is evolving into a micro-collaborative social network. This community will form the future base of The Collaboration Foundation, and will be able to participate in other non-profit collaborations, such as The 2 Second Film, as outlined by our 5 Phase Plan. The Collaboration Foundation's online community will continue to grow with each phase, and will provide a platform for fostering global collaboration.
The Collaboration Foundation, our non-profit organization, provides oversight to our production budget. We rely on donated services and volunteers to keep costs down.
We include donated services and in-kind services when calculating our 'Total Amount Raised'. In-kind donations include $50K in post-production services from FotoKem, over $25K worth of computers/software for editing donated by Apple, dedicated servers and web hosting donated by Pair Networks, and pro-bono legal services for The Collaboration Foundation courtesy of McDermitt, Will, & Emery. The additional funds have been raised dollar-by-dollar online and on the streets via thousands of producers from around the world.
We rely on volunteers and our online community of producers to keep hard costs down. If you can donate services or equipment we need, please contact us! If you can donate $1 or more to help us cover our production costs, you can donate online or by mail. Large donations of $500 or more can be made tax-deductible in the US.
