is validating e-mails confusing?

Have people been having problems with the registrations process? I'm especially curious if the account confirmation/email validation is confusing of giving people problems. We have noticed a fair ammount of new producers that have donated but have not activated their accounts. We are thinking of ways to make this simpler and was just wondering if anyone had thoughts.
