The Diversity of Cultural Participation in the Arts

nirvan

Just doing some research on participation in the arts, and wanted to share a bookmark to an interesting article I found: http://www.wallacefoundation.org/KnowledgeCenter/KnowledgeTopics/CurrentAreasofFocus/ArtsParticipation/TheDiversityofCulturalParticipation.htm

I'd be interested in any thoughts folks have surrounding participation and the arts (or links to relevant research articles)...

Learning to Love You More

nirvan

i love participatory art online and wanted to share a cool link that was recently sent to me:

http://www.learningtoloveyoumore.com/

from the site description:

Learning to Love You More is both a web site and series of non-web presentations comprised of work made by the general public in response to assignments given by artists Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher. Yuri Ono designs and manages the web site.

Participants accept an assignment, complete it by following the simple but specific instructions, send in the required report (photograph, text, video, etc), and see their work posted on-line. Like a recipe, meditation practice, or familiar song, the prescriptive nature of these assignments is intended to guide people towards their own experience.

Net Squared - remixing the web for social change

Check out http://www.netsquared.org/

NetSquared looks like a really great resource for any non-profit looking to use tech and social networking tools. They put together a conference once a year that looks really awesome.

I only wish I had heard about this during their nomination phase last year. I signed up for their newsletter to keep up with their community.

Dropping Knowledge :: 100 Questions Answered

Last night a friend from Germany shared with me a really interesting non-profit project called Dropping Knowledge: http://www.droppingknowledge.org

I feel they share a lot of the same values and objectives as this project and the Collaboration Foundation: innovation, new-media, social transformation, platforms for communication, etc.

Check out their Round Table project called The Table of Free Voices: http://www.droppingknowledge.org/bin/projects/archive.page

The Ripple Effect - physics

I love the range of scale in the universe. From the super big to the super tiny. Came across this article on the DailyKos which painted a nice picture of scale:

Connects with the way i think of this project on some level. I think cosmic inflation would make an amazing one second film.
