PETITION BACKSTORY: IMDb had at first rejected The 1 Second Film and was not going to pre-list our film until after it was completed. We began an on-line petition in February of 2005, and with the help of Stephen Colbert, we engaged IMDb in a dialogue on IMDb's message board. IMDb took a closer look at our project and agreed that our credits met their requirements for listing. They then began listing all of our credits. IMDb was then so overwhelmed by the amount of producers we were recruiting that in February of 2007 they deleted all of our producer credits without warning. This is the originally petition, originally Posted February 12, 2005:
"IMDB should put these credits in. It's as valid as most of my credits."
- Stephen Colbert (Producer, The 1 Second Film)
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
1. SIGN our 'PETITION'
If you agree that THE 1 SECOND FILM should be pre-listed as 'In Production' on IMDB, please SIGN our 'PETITION' by LEAVING A POST HERE. You don't have to be one of our producers to support this petition.
2. POST A MESSAGE to IMDB.
You can also post a message on IMDB's Message Board. Comment on our thread or start your own.
3. TELL FRIENDS.
**************************
Many of our producers have been asking us 'When will my credit be listed on IMDB?' For the record, we have been trying to get THE 1 SECOND FILM listed on IMDB (The Internet Movie Database) for some time, but we have been rejected so far. IMDB wants us to wait until after our film has been released. But we strongly feel we qualify for pre-listing.
For a work to be eligible for inclusion in the database it must be of general public interest and should be available to the public or have been available in the past.
It does not have to be a feature film. We accept most kinds of films:
-features
-documentaries
-experimental films
-short films
-films made for the big screen
-TV and video
-TV series and mini series
-video games
General public interest is assumed if a work:
*has been released to cinemas
*has been shown on non local TV
*has been released on video or prints have been made available to the public
*has been accepted and shown on film festivals that don't accept everything independent of its quality
*has been made by a (now) famous artist or person of public interest.
*has become famous for some reason and is widely talked about/referenced in non local media or the 'film community' or is now of general historic interest for some reason.
We think that The 1 Second Film meets these requirements.
The only possible issue we can see is that IMDB does not pre-list short films under 40 minutes, but The 1 Second Film is much longer than 40 minutes when you count the end credits (which include a feature length documentary).
This video clip is from the 'making of' documentary that will play during our 60 minute, 70mm credit sequence.
We have sent IMDB another request, and hope they will get back to us soon. Until then, thanks for helping this production along. We are confident that sooner or later our Producers will be given the credit they deserve.
---------------------------------------- end -----------------------------------
This was the original petition on the forum of our old website. We are also including on this thread archived posts from our producers .
The 1 Second Film project is important artistically and historically, so it should be added to IMDB.
The 1 Second Film embodies everything a good film should.
It is artistic, collaborative, fun, purposeful, and thought-provoking.
The amount of work that will go into the finished product will be huge in scale, and the sum total of several years of creation and marketing.
The film transfer to 65mm 15-perf Imax format, the editing of the documentary (100's of hours of footage), and the title sequence will result in an exclusive creation unique in the world of remakes and overhyped action films with much less artistic substance.
The inclusion to IMDB would be a great benifit to the film
itself, and the film industry in general.
IMDB should support such an inclusive forward thinking project. Thinking outside of the box is how masterpieces are made and IMDB should give props to the brothas and sistahs who are involved. Shame Shame triple shame on you IMDB! Peace out!
- Sabrina A. Taylor (Executive Producer, The 1 Second Film)
This is something new, and should be added to IMDb directly!
Good News: IMDb has "tentatively approved" our title for listing!
Here is IMDb's message:
Hype aside, look at it from our standpoint.
The only press coverage of note (according to the "press" page on your web site) is a one-paragraph throwaway at the end of a Boston Globe Sundance article, and it names only one of the famous people you mention.
The film has already been in production for about 4 years, with another year projected. Our experience is that independent, low-budget films with that kind of schedule are extremely unpredictable, and their credits tend to be too contentious. Even assuming it gets finished on time, there's no evidence suggesting it will actually screen to a paying audience.
Having said all that, I will note that our title managers have now tentatively approved this title, though that is still subject to review by our head title manager.
Stephen Colbert is a funny man, whose tongue rarely leaves his cheek.
Thanks everyone who has posted comments! Be sure to let IMDb know of your support!
Yours,
Nirvan

I dont see why the 1 second film should not be added to IMDB!!
The 1 Second Film project is a milestone in that it cements my place in history. And I still have 14 minutes and 59 seconds of fame left! It definitely deserves its listing in IMDB, or else I will be forced to boycott IMDB and use a piece of crap like Leonard Maltin's Video Guide.
Let's all boycott IMDB if they don't list it quickly.
The 1 Second Film is a real endeavor, much more so than many films that have been listed in IMDB but never came to fruition. It deserves to be listed on the site.
Is The 1 Second Film also a PR event? Sure... but on a much smaller scale than any of the films Harvey Weinstein flogs Oscar voters with every year.
List it, IMDB!
-Rick Castello
Heck yeah! This definitely deserves a placement on the IMDB. Otherwise, the IMDB is useless. Also, I need my credits padded.

Hell yes, I support you! If there are actors cast, then it should definitely be referenced as in production under their IMBD actor profiles too. Saw a pick of P. Brosnan and Tom Arnold above, I hope Tom's in it! Good Iowan representive and a personal inspiration of mine. Good luck, let me know when you get in!

Seems our petition has been successful!
Our film is now listed on IMDb!
The 1 Second Film (IMDb listing)
They have yet to list any of our credits, but we hope that will come soon...
Thanks to everyone who took time to post and helped bring our little film to IMDb's attention. We were genuinely surprised that it didn't take longer.
Now, if we can just get our producers listed, we might really get somewhere fast.
Yours,

The 1 Second Film is one of the most creative ideas ever, therefore posting all the current credits as "in production"
I've been listed for less. And stuff I haven't been half as proud of.

Yeah, i would really like being listed for this on imdb.com
THANK YOU IMDb for changing your mind and listing The 1 Second Film.
We really appreciate IMDb including very short films like ours and helping new people find out about our project.
We realize that listing our credits is alot of work for IMDb's programmers...but we are still giving them at least one more credit to add: a SPECIAL THANKS to IMDb in our credits.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to sign this petition and also to post on IMDb's message board. Your support did make a difference, and continues to help produce this film.
Yours,
Nirvan
I support the 1second film and believe the credits should be listed on IMDB.
The One Second Film is a FILM and should be treated as such. Do the right thing, IMDb!
I thought it was ironic that when you started this IMDb was one of your biggest supporters and now it's the exact opposite .I think that this film is perfectly eligible for IMDb (and also many people find out about this film thru IMDb so since they removed this they are actually making it so women have to wait longer to get full rights)

Re: IMDB Petition
The 1 Second Film should absolutely be added to IMDB. All the credits are legitimate and proven, and many of us that have signed on as producers have extensive IMDB credits already. It was also mentioned recently in a story in the Boston Globe so obviously people are talking about it and are interested. There is no reason that IMDB should be keeping this off of their website.
