our forum is just drupal out of the box. it definitely needs some work, but currently is lower on priorities. Still need to fix the donation bugs.
If anyone wants to help- maybe look through the Drupal forums on ways to spruce up Drupal forums.

The Simple Machine Forums pack is a fairly good piece of work. I've been a part of several groups that have used it. I'm not privy to the inner workings of it, but it might require its own site to run. Not sure if it could embed into this site. But it is still very useful.
