How are donations used?

Donations are used to make The 1 Second Film, which includes a feature-length documentary. Visit our Budget Overview to see how donations have been spent so far, and the remaining production needs we are fundraising for. Our expenditures are overseen by The Collaboration Foundation. Any surplus donations will be donated to charity.

How do I donate online?

To donate online, click here and register to become our producer. You will be directed to PayPal's secure server where you can contribute an amount of $1 or more. Please note, you do not need to join PayPal to use PayPal's service. You can also donate by mail after registering online.

What do producers get for donating?

Anyone who registers and donates $1 or more will be given a producer credit in The 1 Second Film as well as a producer profile on our site allowing full participation in our collaborative production. Producer credits will be listed in order of amount donated and are subject to our Terms of Use. Our producers can also send in for a free business card while supplies last. Producers will not receive any financial return for their donation; all profits raised will be donated to charity. Also, we can not guarantee or control IMDb credit listings (please see IMDb FAQs).

Can I donate by mail?

Yes, you can donate by mail using U.S. check or money order. Please see our donate by mail instructions.

Can donations be made tax-deductible?

Yes, donations of $500 or more can be made tax-deductible in the US by following our tax-deductible donation instructions.

Can my company become a producer?

Yes, your company or business can donate to receive a producer credit. We welcome companies that are responsible members of local and/or global communities. Please keep in mind that we reserve the right to refund donations and remove the names of any individual or company that we don't want to work with, as per our terms of use.

When is the deadline for donations?

We have not set the deadline yet. The deadline will depend on our fundraising and post-production schedule; at a certain point, we will no longer be able to accept donations so that we can render the final 70mm credit sequence. Our producer list will then be locked. We will announce the deadline on our website as soon as it is set. We suggest you not wait 'til the last second to get in.

Can I add more money later?

Yes, you can add more to your producer credit up until the donation deadline (the deadline has not yet been set). Adding to your previous amount will move your name up our credit list, while continuing to help us raise our budget. Any surplus donations will be given to charity.

How do other people donate to my credit?

You can choose to allow other people to donate directly to your producer credit. To do this, register and validate your account to create a profile page. In your profile preference settings you can convert your credit to an 'open credit.' You may then forward your profile URL to friends and family who can donate online directly to the producer credit you created. If a producer is logged in when they donate to an open credit, they will eventually be added to the recepients list of 'benefactors' (we have yet to program this, but it's in the works, so be sure to log in before donating to an open credit).

Can I give a producer credit as a gift?

Yes. It is similar to making a charitable donation in a loved ones name. Gift credits are subject to our terms of use. You assume full responsibility for any producer credit that you initiate, including making the recepient aware of your gift within 14 days. Can I donate in memory of a loved one?

Yes, donations can be made in memory of a loved one. A Producer credit made in the name of a deceased loved one must include language to the effect of "In memory of" or "In loving memory of." These donations are made with the understanding that it is your memory of the loved one that is helping to produce our film, and not the individual. Please review our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy for more details.

Can a group of people share a credit?

Yes; you can name your credit whatever you want as per our terms of use. Create a credit for your school, club, organization, business, town, country, sports team, or even just your favorite concept; make it an 'open-credit' so others can donate to it, and see how much your producer credit can raise. You can even start a friendly rivalry!

Can I change my producer credit name?

No. In general, once a producer credit name is registered, it can not be changed. Exceptions will be made for credits that violate our terms of use. Recepients of gift credits may also request a one-time name change as per our terms. We will also try to  correct any spelling mistakes made to producer credits that we entered by hand.

How do the Top 11 title-credits work?

Our final Top 11 donors will receive title-credits that appear before The 1 Second Film begins (presented by... in association with... etc.). These title-credits will also be prominently displayed on our website indefinitely. Our Top 11 donors may also appear in our 70mm making-of documentary if they choose, and will be given priority access to our 70mm world premiere event.

How do I become a 'Producer of the Moment'?

Currently, to be featured as our Producer of the Moment, follow these steps:

1. Donate $1 or more to become our producer.

2. Create you Producer Profile and fill in your bio.

3. Download our flier or make your own, and upload to your profile a cool pic of you promoting The 1 Second Film in your part of the world.

4. Once you have filled in your profile and added your pic, post a request to be a POTM in this forum thread. Producer of the Moment profiles are in random rotation.

How does one become a 'Sponsor of the Moment'?

If interested in becoming our sponsor, please contact us at: sponsors(at)the1secondfilm.com. Sponsors will soon be able to have their profiles displayed prominently on our website and may also apply for co-branding opportunities. We are looking for sponsors for our cross-country bio-diesel road-trip and university presentation tour, as well as for our world-premiere galla. We are also looking for technology and equipment sponsors for various production needs.

How do I get my free producer business card?

To get a free producer business card(s), send us a self-adressed stamped-envelope that includes your name and Producer ID#. We will send you a customizable business card featuring one of the 12 frames of your film. Executive Producers can get an entire set of all 12.
