My Bio
Dr. Zakk Flash is an anarchist political writer, poet, and radical community activist from Norman, Oklahoma. He proudly holds an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from the Monastery of Universal Life Church in Seattle, Washington. Their maxim "do only that which is right" is one that supports the freedom of an individual to follow their belief system without interference from the government, church, or other institutions - an anarchist ideal. Flash is a member of the National Writer's Union, Local 1981. His political writing has been featured in multiple languages worldwide, appearing on mainstream media outlets and radical activist journals alike. His most recent work appears via Anarkismo and Infoshop.org, in newspapers printed by the Occupy Movement across the United States, in Spanish via ¡Indig-Nación!, and by Adbusters magazine. He is an advocate of direct democracy, vigorously opposing the anti-democratic tendencies of neoliberalism, militarism, empire, religious fundamentalism, and the ongoing attacks against social programs, the working class, the poor, and public and higher education. To this end, he is a member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW IU 650). In 2011, he founded the Central Oklahoma Black/Red Alliance (COBRA), an anti-capitalist information clearinghouse and media network. Dr. Flash is the curator of the Outlaw Poets Society, a collective of poets born in the mid-1970s. His poetry infuses love and melancholy with Beat sensibilities, references to drug culture and addiction among hints of the Confessionalist school, and provides a critical focus on Black Mountain-style writing. He serves as a judge for the Pioneer Library System's annual poetry contest and as a frequent competitor in the OKC Extreme Championship Poetry slam series. He is the Man Behind the Curtain at OKPoetryPortal.org and an associate member of the American Academy of Poets.
Why are you supporting The 1 Second Film project?
As a collaborative creative effort, the 1 Second Film project gives the opportunity for thousands of people around the world to participate in art that transcends the traditional borders of age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, physical and cognitive abilities/qualities, race, sexual orientation, gender expression, religious belief, political belief, educational background, geographical location, national origin, marital status, parental status, and experience - all the bullshit that often acts as a barrier towards living life. The chance to be part of a global collaborative art project that addresses social issues - like the women's social rights issues being addressed by this film, vis–à–vis the Global Fund for Women - is historic. Traditionally, these issues are left to inept governments or the "good will" of mega-corporations seeking PR points. By crowdsourcing our resources, each individual has the opportunity to help problems that affect the global community. There is no better way to help.

ZakkFlash's Perfect Moment

If you had to choose a 'perfect moment' from your life to make into a one-second film, what would it be?

My perfect moment was my wedding day - getting married to my best friend, surrounded by our friends and family, and having Vermin Supreme officiate.. There was no more perfect moment. It set the stage for the birth of my darling daughter and our life together as a family.
