My Bio
Shem Guibbory (Music ’74) is a violinist, music director and entrepreneur. Currently in his second year as Co-Chair of the Special Projects Committee, CalArts Alumni Association, he envisions a series of works-in-progress events taking place throughout the US and specific foreign countries where CalArts has an Alumni base. These events will give alumni near-term opportunities to develop their work. They will also serve as a focal point for building Community by increasing direct alumni participation in the Association, cultivating and harvesting friends, family and supporters for CalArts. In 2005 he was one of the chief architects of West Goes East – a 30-year retrospective of East Coast Alumni performances that sold out 4 evenings at The Kitchen. He has twice been a recipient of the ASCAP/CMA Adventurous Programming Award (as Music Director of the Chamber Music Conference and Composers’ Forum of the East) and in 2003 was awarded a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship to Bellagio. In January 2007, along with co-creator Margaret Booker (Director, Writer) he co-produced 3 workshop performances at The Gatehouse of ”A Night at the Alhambra Café” as part of the premiere season of Harlem Stage Partners (Patricia Cruz Executive Director, Brad Learmonth Programming Director).
