I’m gonna attribute to what we sometimes refer to as “parking gods” the fact that the bus ended up parked right in front of a bus mechanic.
Not just any bus mechanic. A bus mechanic who has worked on the type of engine in our bus for the past six years.
We’ve got an appointment for tomorrow morning.
We made a 1-bus parade around New York that led us to Albert Maysles and a truly inspiring chat about art and film and people.
He has a silly smile that he pulls out sometimes when he makes a joke. I think just remembering that smile will get me out of future funks.
Fast forward:
Producer Havilah Brewster sporting a jumper and passing out flyers to the Thursday night Times Square crowds – she looked a little like an oomp loompa cause she’s tiny and the jumper was big
the line of 50 million cop cars who sped past us at 52nd and 9th Ave. was breathtaking
Men in brown unitards do not a haunted house make. I mean, they’re scary, but not quite in the way I was hoping.
By the end of the night, we ended up at a bar. I was so tired and I just wanted to sit and look at people, when a fellow people watcher asked, “what do you focus on? What do you look for?” I'd never thought of that before, but I did have an answer. When I watch people, I look for intimate moments of communication that reveal the nature of the relationship of people. Friend? Sweetheart? Enemy?
This guy was from Tel Aviv. He was a good friend for the 30 minutes we got to speak. He was mysterious and observant and I’m grateful for the unexpected connection.
Good night New York.
