Hi, my name is Nirvan. I'm the director of The 1 Second Film, and keep this blog as a production journal. We also have an open Producers Blog and a collection of perfect moments.
Back from Sundance- a very good trip all in all. We added some 160 new Producers, who together donated over $1,600... and we got some priceless footage for our behind the scenes documentary. At some point during the trip we officially passed the 1,000 Producers mark. Seems by the end of the festival, we would run into our producers everywhere we went. That is such a good feeling.
Sundance was such a bench mark trip. I realized while I was out there that it was exactly one year ago (while I was in Park City for Slamdance) that I started selling credits again for The 1 Second Film. I had finally finished 'The Three of Us' and was able to refocus on The 1 Second Film, which had been on the back burner as I finished my other projects. Now with my other projects completed, it occurred to me that I should start finishing The 1 Second Film. I was talking to the guys who made "Deer Pillow" and they gave me $2- I wrote their names on the back of our dinner receipt. I think they thought I was joking. But now, one year later, the film is being completed on 70mm and has an international cast of thousands.
One year ago, I had no idea how I was going to finish this film, and now 12 months later it seems like the film is on a course of its own and I am just hanging on trying not to fall off. So, now that I'm back in Los Angeles, I need to follow through with a lot of our plans. One is setting up a visit to Tom Green- we need to show him the latest Andy Dick footage. That should be fun... then I will be able to re-post the video clip of Andy beating the pinada, which is really one of our funniest clips to date.
I also need to work out some issues with the website. Our forum keeps having bugs and I really need to get our database automated. I spent hours and hours logging all the names from our new producers and haven't even had a chance to write them all an e-mail of thanks. The money we made at Sundance will help pay for some of our web site upgrades, get a hard drive to start logging our footage, and pay for the last printing of business cards.
We keep growing in small steps. Alot of people don't understand why we need so much money to make a 1 second film. First of all, there is a feature length 'making of' documentary which will compile hundreds of hours of video. That is no small task. But we are also forming an organization that will continue to put together animated films that are created during giant events that will raise money for various charities. We need to raise another $3000 just to cover the legal expenses related to forming a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Then we will apply for grants, put together a staff, and all that...
Probably the most pressing task is to start packing. I have to move very soon, which includes transporting the 12 giant frames of our film. This is always a delicate operation. I will use this move as a chance to clean the frames up and prepare them for their close-up. We are going to re-photograph the frames for their 70mm transfer.
