Hi, my name is Nirvan. I'm the director of The 1 Second Film, and keep this blog as a production journal. We also have an open Producers Blog and a collection of perfect moments.
Yesterday we had a meeting for the Collaboration Foundation's LA Board of Directors.
The meeting was at GOOD Magazine's HQ; Ben Goldhirsh and Stephen Nemeth were in attendance, as well as Juli Crockett, our newly minted Secretary/Treasurer, and my cinematrographer friend Marcin, who was filming for our doc.
This felt like a really big meeting as there was a lot to discuss; the Road to Oprah update, fiscal and project status reports, the new web development, and overall project goals/focus.
We also reviewed our ByLaws and other paperwork for our 501(c)3 application, and voted in an official Conflict of Interest policy (I'll upload a copy so everyone can see). I've been learning all about this process as we go and getting a lot of help and advice from our pro bono legal team at McDermitt Will & Emery. We have some small tweaks to make to the paperwork, but we are getting very close to wrapping it all up.
I got a lot of great feedback for the new site, including some of the big changes we will be making. The biggest change is that we will be adopting a FREE model for joining, which will help build a network for the Collaboration Foundation. I'll explain more of this down the line, including the new site designs. Stephen and Ben had some really exciting ideas in terms of the functionality of the Collaboration Foundation site down the line. As things become more concrete, the potential begins to reveal itself. I think everyone was a little more clear and excited about what we are doing, even though it is taking time to develop.
We agreed that the focus should be on building the platform for collaboration, as opposed to concentrating on post-production of The 1 Second Film documentary. So we will be putting our resources toward building the web tools to create that platform, and will continue filming the process along the way (to be included as part of the documentary).
I still have more paperwork to do for the foundation, but once out of the way I will be focussing my efforts into fundraising to finish the new site. The functionality of the new site is not going to be cheap to build; we are still getting competitive bids from developers- once we get all the quotes, I'll share the numbers with everyone.
For now, it's getting late in the afternoon on a Saturday, and I'm gonna try to make it to the ocean and get a little surfing in before sunset.
Best to all,
n
