2008 Breaks and Breakthroughs

2008 MontageThis holiday break comes with two big breakthroughs for our project.

First, on the web front, I spoke with web mike 2 days ago and was told that there was a breakthrough with the new registration process! Everyone has gone on break now, so we wont be able to implement the technical ideas till a week after the new year, but still, it's exciting that things are back on track.

Meanwhile, last night i woke up at 3am with a head full of ideas. Dragged myself out of bed and spent a couple of hours writing everything down. Basically, ended up writing a treatment for our making-of documentary. I've been having this stuff floating around in my head for a while, so it felt good to finally translate all the ideas into words.

It's the end of 2008. I love this time of year for how reflective it can be as you look both back at the past year and forward to the next.

For The 1 Second Film, 2008 was a subtle year, with most of the activity beneath the surface. A lot of big ideas came into focus; we completed the paperwork for the Collaboration Foundation's non-profit filing, set some big web design goals for the1secondfilm.com and the collaborationfoundation.org, raised funds for the new web design, hired a web team, started programming, and passed over 10,000 Producers.

Before our 2007 Road to Oprah tour, I had thought that we would return and be in a position to spend 2008 editing the documentary. However, the trip did not turn out like anticipated. But it did reveal a lot about the project in terms of what was working and what still needed work. In short, I realized that a big goal of The 1 Second Film was to create a functional web platform for collaboration that could continue to grow with future Collaboration Foundation projects.

Looking forward, 2009 will be the year that we launch the new site for the1secondfilm.com, and hopefully the collaborationfoundation.org as well. These sites will be major accomplishments and will give us the tools to finally finish this project and to start developing the next ones. So, I'm pretty excited about that.

Hoping everyone has a great New Year!

best,

Nirvan
