This weekend I really wished that I had some 1 Second Film producer materials and a videocamera on me, as I found myself staring at a triple-threat celebrity opportunity to convert some more folks to the great cause of the 1 Second Wonderfulness.
Last week I had gotten an email invite from Environment California (one of the many environment/animal rights/superfriends peace on earth for All groups I belong to) to go to a panel discussion called "Sustainable LA" this past Sunday that was part of the Silverlake Film Festival.
There were all kinds of inspirational local heroes on the panel, as well as a few celebrities like Ed Begley Jr, Bill Nye the Science Guy, and Alicia Silverstone (who I also saw at a Year of the Dog screening that PETA organized at the Paramount lot a few weeks ago).
I'm gonna need to take some time at a later date to write all about that was said there. The short version is that we all need to start riding our bikes to work, remembering to bring our own bags to the grocery store, and get a water filter for the tap water.
Alicia Silverstone was the only one on the panel that really talked about the relationship between Veganism and the Environment (as PETA likes to remind folks, you can't call yourself an environmentalist and eat meat) which was surprising to me. Good thing she was there representing for the animals. Ed Begley Jr and Bill Nye the Science Guy carpooled there in Bill's electric car... which is awesome. Thinking of those two guys being friends made me happy.
Every day I'm getting a little bit crazier and more extreme about the environment, the animals, and the people of the earth living all happy, joyous, flourishing and free and I'm totally digging it.
The prospect of taking the Evangenitals on a road trip with Nirvan in a biodiesel bus and making songs about Seconds and Perfect Moments and Community and Orgasms and Oprah is darn exciting!
This summer is getting booked up quick with all sorts of crazy travel and great gigs for the band. Our second album is coming out soon, and coming along beautifully. There are some TV and Radio appearances coming soon. The Lummis Day festival on June 3rd, our brief tour of Florida, and some local fundraisers being discussed to raise funds for the 1 Second Film's pilgrimage to Oprah. Good stuff all around.
Nirvan speaks of the Tipping Point coming soon (or at least feeling like it is) and I'm feeling it too. I've long been watching this project develop from a distance (though I was lucky enough to be a painter on one of the frames... thank goodness for drunken nights at CalArts!) and I am filled with glee that I am finally able to get more involved.
I'm so in love with this project and everyone involved in it, it's silly. I've got hugs for all of you when I see you out in the streets.

I was supposed to go to that same Year of the Dog screening, but ended up not making it. would have been funny to see you there selling credits. we need to hook you up with a producer kit.

'Bringing people together, for one second.'
Nirvan always has his producer kit. Unless John C Reilly is sitting there.
