Last week we gave our first presentations along our Road to Oprah tour. The presentations were at the HQ of Google and YouTube. How we ended up at Google and YouTube is just another case of our producers helping us in ways we could have never imagined. It was a hectic dash to get our bio-bus and credit-stand caboose road ready, but everyone on our crew stepped up, and we had an all round awesome adventure. Story and Pics below...

Im catching up on the updates- before our GoogleYouTube visit we had some frantic prep work on the bus. Levi and I stayed up til 4am putting the caboose together, running over in the morning to get the trailer lights hooked up, and back to the bus to get the vinl wrap put on the bus.
Here are some pics of our vinyl wrap getting installed the day before we went to Google.
The vinyl was donated by Cranky Signs in North Carolina. Cranky contacted us after stumbling on our project via Zaadz.com and offered to donate some vinyl graphics. This allowed us to add some pictures of our producers along the side of our bus.
Hey everyone, we made an amazing first trip up to Google and YouTube and returned safely. It was a close call as our insurance provider (State Farm) fell through the day we were to leave. It happened without warning (had something to do with having the word "Oprah" written on our bus?).
We had an emergency meeting the night before the Google presentation and decided not to drive the bus without insurance. We considered cancelling, but opted to split up in the hope we could work something out. 3 of us went up to Google by car in the morning, while Levi and the band stayed behind to try and get insurance- Juli managed to find insurance after 4 solid hours of phone calls - and so the band was able to meet us w/ bus at YouTube the next day. So many awesome things happened- i can't describe it all just now as we have to run to the bus to do some work. Meanwhile we are entering/uploading over 100 new producers, digitizing video, uploading pics to flickr, etc. all while booking the rest of our tour and trying to finish our bus. I'll post more details soon. Meanwhile, thank you to all our new producers and friends @ Google and YouTube! As well as everyone else we met in SF, Berkeley, and along the way. Your Producer Profiles should be added today or tomorrow.
(Yep - time for some good old fashioned blogging - From now on, I'll try my best to paste in a copy of my latest journal entry here at the 1, as well as myspace.com/mikeotoole and at my main blog - http://thsoulenigma.liv... / http://MikeOToole.blogs...
You will also find my posts at Facebook, imported automatically from livejournal.Anyway, on with the blog - feel free to subscribe in every which way and at any and all locations.)
It’s been a weird week, and I’m wiped, but if I don’t post this, I won’t be able to sleep - here is my attempt at simply recounting things - nothing too breathtakingly detailed; just a “what I did yesterday” log, so that my day-to-day is not lost forever in the matrix of my mind, and maybe you, brave reader will enjoy it to some degree.
So many people to thank for helping w/ the bus last weekend. Tequila Mockingbird and Jed.com came out, met for first time, and bought our crew pizza! Evan White and Patrick Durham were an unstopable and hilarious dynamic duo. Brokesy.com brought us all our jumpsuits that look awesome! David S. (a pool cleaned)brought out a power generator and welder, and donated a hitch + the installation on our bus, workin both sat and sunday to get it done. and all the rest of folks who helped paint, build the interiors, make runs for supplies, etc. Thank you all SO much!
I have a ton more pics to upload, but no time right now. Just a quick thanks
I finally uploaded my Road to Oprah road crew jumpsuit fitting and bus conversion pics to Flickr.
It's an open studio at the Armory Center for the Arts today; we will be working on our bus. I just finished uploading and tagging yesterdays pics; check out the work/fun in our School Bus Conversion Flickr Set
Come on our to 965 N. Fair Oaks in Pasadena today- there is a lot of cool art in the studios, and we will be working on the bus in the back lot. Big thanks to the Armory for giving us a summer residency to work on our bus; it's an amazing space and i don't know how we would have been able to pull this off without the support of such an amazing community arts organization.
It's a mad mad dash. Long days before we go- we drove the bus to the DMV today to see if it qualified as an RV, and it does! We need to get it weighed, but the registration is in the pocket and we can pick up a license plate same day. We are meeting a nice insurance agent on Monday, so we have the weekend to make more renovations.
Only 6 days til we hit the road for the first legg of our tour, and there is lots happening. The band brought all the instruments to the bus last night so Levi could make sure everything fit. They ended up having a musical jam during sunset that I was sad to miss. Me? I have been preparing all the graphic design files for CrankySigns, who is donating some vinyl wrap, and will soon be joining some of our sponsors. The designs are being printed this weekend and installed early next week. I'm including one of our online producers who uploaded a cool picture.
There are 7 days til our first presentation. I know that know because of our new Event Calendar!
www.the1secondfilm.com/event
A mini calander of events now shows up on everyone's producer profile. Time/dates and details are in flux and getting booked, so keep checking. Our calendar is dynamically generating the list of events on roadtooprah.com/map
We will be adding Event details to each venue as well as contact info to the various regional coordinators helping in so many awesome ways.
