i know a lot of people are waiting for the new site, and just wanted to fill you in on what's goin on: we started beta testing the site last week and ran into a kink that has set us back a few days. the way drupal works, every user that registers receives a unique ID#; we are also giving each of our producers a unique "producer ID#." originally, we built the site so that the user ID would be the same as the producer ID. however, we are also creating a role for users who have registered online, but have not donated yet. these users will be called "Aspiring Producers." Aspiring Producers will become real producers after donating $1 or more to their account. They will be able to forward their aspiring producer profile to friends and family allowing others to donate to their credit. this will allow people who do not have $1 the ability to participate. it is also a way for people to register online and then donate by mail, and will save us a lot of administrative time. anyway, the complication was that Aspiring Producers were being given an ID# the same as the user ID, which was the same number being generated for the Producer ID. this was messy, and meant that your Producer ID# might be #10000 even though we only have 9500 producers... it also meant that people could register for free a zillion times and take up a lot of space on our site, and amongst our producer profile pool. anyway, it posed a potential structural problem, so jason has been going back into the code and separating the user ID from the producer ID. it's taken a few extra days to sort it out, but the site will now only generate a producer ID after a user has registered and donated. this will create a much more efficient foundation for our site. we are still ironing out this issue, and hope to resume beta testing this week. kind of technical, but that's what's up. jason will be out of town this week. hoping for a launch in the week after he returns.
